If you have pets and any carpeted floors in your home, you no doubt have had to clean up some messes at some point. You’re always better off contacting carpet cleaning in Albuquerque if you want your carpets to look like new, but there are still ways to keep your carpets looking clean in the meantime.

Don’t Wait to Clean Up A Mess

The best way to keep your carpets looking clean is to address every mess as soon as you see it. There is always the possibility that your carpet will still be stained even if you clean up a mess right away, but there is less of a chance that it will set in.

Blot, Don’t Rub

Whenever you are cleaning up a mess on your carpet, it’s important that you blot it with a paper towel and not rub it in. Rubbing a wet spot or a stain will only spread it and make it even harder to clean. The paper towel should soak up any urine that hasn’t already soaked into the carpet. Keep blotting the stain until it is mostly dry, switching out your paper towel as needed.

Using Vinegar

A solution of 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar works very well when cleaning up a pet stain. Simply fill a spray bottle with the solution, and spray it onto the stain. This not only rewets the stain and makes it easier to lift it out of the carpet, but it also neutralizes any odor that remains. You might want to try using pure vinegar on a particularly nasty mess, but you need to be careful when doing this as vinegar has a strong smell of its own. In any case, you will now be able to scrub the stain to make sure the vinegar penetrates into the carpet fibers.

Adding Baking Soda

While the stain is still wet from the vinegar spray, sprinkle some baking soda onto it. You should notice that the baking soda will react to the vinegar, causing it to fizz. This will help lift the stain and the smell out of the carpet. After that, you can leave the baking soda on the carpet for a day or two to let it dry. You should be able to clean it with a vacuum cleaner after that.
