Home life in the Duke City can be constantly rainbows and sunshine if you have a puppy that’s all too excited for your return after every stressful day at work – it gets less cute when this excitement leads to yellow stains on the carpet, though. When this happens, calling a reliable Albuquerque carpet cleaner can restore your flooring to a clean, sanitary state, but there are also a few things you can do to treat pet stains on your own.

Clean up after urine immediately

If you’re lucky enough to catch your dog on the act of doing a number (one) on your carpet, be sure to clean it up immediately so it doesn’t leave stains and odor. Use paper towels to soak up as much of the moisture as possible, then wash the affected area with a solution of vinegar and warm water.

Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for dried-up stains

Should the stain already be dried up by the time you get to it, sprinkle some baking soda on the soiled parts of your carpet. Then, mix a cup of a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with a teaspoon of liquid detergent (make sure that it’s not petroleum-based) and pour it over the carpet to saturate the baking soda.

Use an enzyme-based rug cleaner

Contributor Amy Hunter writes in the Daily Puppy website about how you can use cleaning chemicals to remove the odor from your carpet that will keep Fido from going back to the same spot on your rug over and over again for his business:

“Clean the rug with an enzyme-based cleaner. Regular rug shampoo will not remove the odor from your dog’s past mistakes, making it a likely target for future accidents. Enzyme-based cleaners do a better job of removing lingering odors.”

Prevent your dog from soiling

Sometimes, the best solution to the problem is to keep it from occurring in the first place – in this case, you should take steps to house train your dog or puppy. For instance, keep a fixed feeding schedule and train him to stay outside afterwards until he’s finished doing his business. You should also get your dog some much-needed exercise so he doesn’t end up stress-peeing.

Should you successfully train your dog to go when and where it’s convenient for the both of you, you should find it much easier to clean and maintain your home. Of course, when he does soil the floor, trust dependable carpet cleaners from Albuquerque like Xtreme Clean LLC to disinfect it for you and get it looking brand new.
